Chalky

Cor! No. 60
24th July 1971

This is the first appearance of Chalky.

Lazy Bones

Whizzer and Chips No. 339
1st May 1976

Here is the first appearance of Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones
was originally a comic strip in the British comic Whizzer and Chips. It made its first appearance in 1976, though most websites mistakenly note the year as 1978.
The strip was about a boy called Benny Bones, who would constantly fall asleep everywhere, much to the annoyance of his parents. The strip was drawn by Colin Whittock, and moved to Buster in 1990 after Whizzer and Chips ended. Here it stayed, surviving on reprints, until the final issue. Artist Jack Edward Oliver included Benny in the last page of that issue, revealing how all the characters in the comic came to an end. It featured Benny explaining to a doctor that he's suffering from insomnia.

Looks like we were all asleep on this one: Benny knew the doctor would advise him to get plenty of sleep, a master plan for his lazy ways - so we know he is probably still lazing about long after the closure of the Buster comic!

Joker

Knockout Vol. 2 No. 1
12th June 1971

Here is the first appearance of Joker.

Joker
was a British comic strip. It first appeared in Knockout issue 1 (series 2) on 12 June 1971. Knockout merged with Whizzer and Chips in 1973. Joker stayed in Whizzer and Chips as a Whizz-kid until the end, when he continued in Buster until the close of the comic on 4 January 2000. On the "last page" of Buster, Joker reveals that he was actually Jeremy Beadle all along. The strip was written by Malcolm Morrison, and illustrated by Sid Burgon.

The Joker was Jeremy Beadle? He fooled a few people with that one, but remember he is a Joker after all. It looks like he played one final joke on the readers before disappearing with the rest of the Buster gang!
